He built Northern Nigeria as a political entity and led it as its first and only premier, until his assassination.
Ahmadu Ibrahim Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, led the Northern People's Congress and served as Premier of the Northern Region from 1954.
He was assassinated in the January 1966 coup, alongside the Prime Minister, in the events that led to the civil war.
